It was raining- no let me rephrase that- it was pouring so hard that we couldn’t see beyond the front of the boat! And I laughed, dripping with happiness because I found a crazy group of cancer survivors that were willing to try anything! I’m not sure I was addicted to dragon boating my first season as I am today, but I was fully addicted to being on such a wonderful team!
These people were the first group of survivors that would change my life forever. Coming from so many backgrounds, with so many stories of survival, gave me hope that I would also not just survive, but thrive!
Building on a strength that I didn’t even know I had, I started really working out as I used to in my 30’s and 40’s. As you can see, I’m not a spring chicken, but a dedicated warrior.
I’m self competitive by nature, and it has been exhilarating to be part of a team that strives to win, but has the compassion to bring everyone that chooses with us. The level that we have achieved together, especially within the past 3 years, is remarkable.
It’s easy for me to look around at these generous teammates and feel blessed to be a part of it all, on and off the boat!
