I discovered the Dragon Boat in Texas, but I became truly addicted when I joined Wellness Warriors. I have had two cancers and I did not know that I needed a support group. I brushed off my cancers like a bad memory. Wellness Warriors showed me that I did not have to brush it off. I can embrace my survival the way that I embraced losing my long brown hair. I have pride in how I put one foot in front of the other to get better. My teammates know what the words “you have cancer“ mean. We tell each other that we are there for each other with a squeeze of the hand, a hug with meaning or a joke at cancer’s expense. We are lucky and Wellness Warriors is the correct name.
