Wellness Warriors changed my post-cancer life.
I came to Wellness Warriors at a time when my cancer journey had taken an unexpected turn. My cancer didn’t respond to first-line treatment, and I had to move on to a clinical trial. I knew the road ahead would be long, and I also knew I needed help staying active—physically and emotionally—through everything that was to come.
Between multiple surgeries and the serious collateral damage left behind by cancer and its treatment, I no longer felt at home in my own body. It felt as though an alien had taken over, and I was trying to figure out how to live inside it again.
Paddling on the Charles River with fellow cancer thrivers changed that. Being in the boat with people who truly understand what it takes to show up—to reclaim your body stroke by stroke—is priceless. There’s a kind of understanding in that boat that doesn’t require explanation.
Staying active after cancer is not optional for me; it’s essential. It reduces my risk of recurrence, helps me manage chronic pain, and dramatically improves my quality of life. Wellness Warriors gives me a way to do that in a setting that is both empowering and deeply supportive.
Sitting in the boat with so many others—each of us grateful to be alive for this stroke, this sunset, this moment of teamwork—reminds me what this team is really about. It’s about striving to be the strongest you can be right now, surrounded by people who get it.
That is Wellness Warriors.
